The Diary of Anne Frank – Characters

| Edith Frank (mother) | Mid 40’s | Aachen, Germany | Sentimental and critical. Anne feels little closeness or sympathy with her. |
| Margot Frank (daughter) | 16-18 | Frankfurt, Germany | Pretty, smart, emotional, and everyone’s favourite. She and Anne do not form a close bond. |
| Anne Frank (daughter) | 13-15 | Frankfurt, Germany | Grows from an innocent, tempestuous, precocious, and somewhat petty teenage girl to an empathetic and sensitive thinker. |
| Mr van Daan | Mid 40’s | Holland | Temperamental, speaks his mind openly, and is not afraid to cause friction, especially with his wife, with whom he fights frequently. |
| Mrs van Daan | Mid 40’s | Holland | She is a fatalist, petty, egotistical, flirtatious, stingy and disagreeable. Frequently complains. |
| Peter van Daan | 15-17 | Holland | Quiet, timid, honest and sweet. Does not share Anne’s strong convictions but is her confidant and source of affection and attention. |
